Zoe knows what it's like to walk between two worlds. She thinks she understands the ugliness of bigotry. But when she discovers that particular poison a little closer to home than she expected, it will take the love of a good man to help her come to terms with it.

"For Life is a warm and tender drama willing to explore a subject that's pretty touchy. I'm glad that Ms. Cheever illustrates that everyone at some time or another has been guilty of bigotry. She adds a liberal dose of humor to smooth things along without preaching and pointing the finger... There's always room for this type of story, and I'm pleased to say that it has earned its place."

Brian turned them so that she was tucked into the corner of the elevator, pinning her deliciously like a bug. The world narrowed to just the two of them. Caught up in the incredible sensations of Brian's lips on hers and his arms tightening around her narrow waist, Zoe forgot what she'd been miserable about just moments before. Her breath caught in her throat as Brian shifted his hips to bring evidence of his arousal into the perfect juncture of their bodies and rubbed himself there.

Her head fell back on a gasp and his lips trailed fire down her throat. "Hell, I've missed you woman. Why have you been torturing me?"

And just like that she remembered what she'd been stressing over.

Zoe put her hands on his arms and gave them a little shove. "Put me down, Brian. The doors are gonna open." She dropped her legs from around his waist and hung there, suspended a couple of inches above the ground by his strong grip around her waist.

He grinned and nipped at her chin. "I won't, not until you tell me why you've been avoiding me."

She shoved harder as the doors started to slide open. "Brian! Now!"

He just laughed and held onto her more tightly. "As soon as you tell me."

The doors slid fully open and Zoe looked over Brian's shoulder to find a dozen people staring at them, a variety of expressions on their faces. She gave them all a half-hearted grin. "He's mentally challenged and I can't seem to get him to understand that he just can't grab me like this in public places."

Brian chuckled and pinched her on the butt.

"Ow!" Zoe glared at him.

A few people laughed. One sour faced woman shoved into the elevator as if they weren't even there and muttered under her breath, "Aren't they all?"
